A New Name

MickC @ June 1, 2008 # 3 Comments

It has been suggested to me that I should rename this blog from “Intellectual Intercourse” to something “less cheesy and more spam/legal-oriented”.
The thing is, I’ve got nothing. Plus, I don’t have the readership of a Laura or a JD or an Al, so it’s mainly just me and my thoughts here.
But, this name has [...]

Search Works Again!

MickC @ October 25, 2006 # No Comment Yet

Google has set up a new thing called “Google Coop Custom Search Engines“. So, Intellectual Intercourse now has its very own search engine! If you click on the search link, it works again because I’ve integrated it with the site. I’ve also done a custom search engine for stock-spam.com.
If you want to [...]

BlogExplosion issues

MickC @ August 21, 2006 # No Comment Yet

For a while, this blog was listed on BlogExplosion. Then I changed WordPress themes and requested a new thumbnail be taken.
That’s when the trouble began. First I was notified that not only would a thumbnail not be taken, but that my blog had been “denied” because of some issue with javascript on the [...]

LeBoeuf, Lamb, Greene & MacRae, LLP: I see you!

MickC @ August 3, 2006 # No Comment Yet

Today I find this hit in my log:
12.145.108.11 - - [03/Aug/2006:13:25:16 -0500] “GET / HTTP/1.1″ 200 11463 “http://www.google.com/search?sourceid=navclient&ie=UTF-8&rls=GGLG,GGLG:2005-41,GGLG:en&q=%22arab+bank%22+leboeuf%2C+lamb” “Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows NT 5.1; .NET CLR 1.1.4322)”
Being the curious person I am, and given that the search was fairly specific, I decided to look up the IP address:
whois 12.145.108.11
[Querying whois.arin.net]
[whois.arin.net]
AT&T WorldNet Services ATT (NET-12-0-0-0-1)

Day posting

MickC @ January 24, 2006 # 2 Comments

I do lots of reading during the day these days. I have a wonderful job that, unfortunately has quite a lot of backlog that has to be cleared out. Since I have to use a web interface to do it, and it seems the system likes it best if I try to only [...]

Putting on a new hat

MickC @ October 19, 2005 # No Comment Yet

You might have noticed a dearth of posts lately. It’s because I have taken on a new job.
On Wednesday, Sept. 28, 2005, I became the Manager of ISP Relations for Informz. This is a new position for them, as they had been trying to handle things on a more ad hoc basis previously. [...]

Comments Re-opened

MickC @ August 11, 2005 # No Comment Yet

For a while I had comments close automagically after 30 days. However, I’m using Spam Karma 2 now, plus a bit of .htaccess wackiness to create iptables entries to drop packets from spammers.
What does that mean for you? It means that all comments should be open again, and that they will remain open.
What [...]

Where have you been?

MickC @ May 10, 2005 # No Comment Yet

That’s a good question.
Sunday morning a thunderstorm knocked out our server, forcing a reboot. When the server was rebooted, it was discovered that upgrading the server from Fedora Core 2 to Fedora Core 3 had introduced a corrupted file that was necessary for system startup.
Our host and I worked on fixing the server for [...]
