The Long Anticipated Political Post

2008 Presidential Election, National Politics, Politics Comments (0)

It doesn’t take people long to figure out that I’m one of those evil, terrible, mean conservative Republicans. In fact, if you’re reading this and got here from somewhere OTHER than a search engine, then chances are really really really good that you already knew that, and still manage to find a way to like me. (I say that because a lot of my friends are liberal Democrats.)

But that doesn’t mean that I don’t occasionally spout off about political things. And now that we’re after Halloween, I’m liable to start posting more about political things. And people who know me anticipate this, as I’m a very political creature.

So, let’s get started, shall we?

  1. I’m a Fred Thompson supporter. I like the guy. I like what I’ve heard of his policies. There will likely be more on this as time goes on and I talk about different policies. For now, I think this will suffice.
  2. Hillary Clinton will be the Democratic nominee. That’s good for Republicans. Seriously. I’m not sure that people really want “two presidents for the price of one” again. And her nomination will certainly assist the Republican GOTV campaign.
  3. Ron Paul supporters tend to be jerks. Oh, I probably know a decent supporter or two of Ron Paul, but my personal experience with them has all been negative. They’re whiny crybabies when things don’t go their way, and they love to yell at the tops of their lungs.

The greatest joy I had at the Texas Republican Straw Poll was watching them leave, while glowering, during the speech of LTC Brian Birdwell (USA, Ret.). Why were they glowering? Because they didn’t want to hear what he said and the course of action that he advocated. This was after several tried to shout down previous speakers. They were rude, condescending, and generally unpleasant. Which is not to even mention the conspiracy theorists (it seems the 911 Truthers have latched on to Mr. Paul). They had flooded the hall with supporters (which was their right) and then were upset that they weren’t allowed to vote (even though the rules had been made clear months before). Given their presence, I’m not at all surprised that the John Birch Society says that the Texas Straw Poll was a “very successful event” for them.

I think I’m going to stop there for now. But it’s get to get things off of the chest, so to speak.
