More Lawsuits, silly and not
Search engine giant Google has been sued not once, but three times recently.
The first lawsuit, filed against Google back in May, by GEICO asserts that Google is infringing its intellectual property rights by allowing AdWords customers to pay for ad placements on the page(s) that result when someone searches for “GEICO”. Forbes somewhat deceptively headlines the story “Does Geico Own ‘Geico’ Or Does Google?” The question really is whether Google is allowed to show ads for AIG, Allstate, or even my personal favorite, Texas Farm Bureau when someone searches for the letters “GEICO”. Opening arguments in that case were delivered yesterday.
The other suit, reported to us by Aunty Spam was filed by pornographer Perfect 10 last week. Perfect 10 alleges that Google is too efficient at what it does.
And finally, yesterday the American Chemical Society filed suit against Google last Thursday over the name of it’s new Scholar service. The ACS claims that Google is infringing upon the trade space occupied by its SciFinder Scholar service.
