My, she’s touchy, ain’t she?

Lisa’s happy about Bush’s electoral victory. She should be, even though her state of Wisconsin went the other way.

So today, Fredette visits Lisa’s site and asks:

Where do you get your statistics?

I’m embarassed to be an American right now.

Then Fredette pops over to her own site and writes her own screed:

I went to visit Just a Girl in the World website today. I visit her every now and then to see what the other half of the world thinks. I often get frustrated. Sorry, but I don’t believe this woman has much up there so I checked out her claim today that President Bush has the highest popular vote recorded in history.

The claim just didn’t make any sense, logically — and I was correct.

Lordy, is she Just a Dope in the World?

[...]

Get the facts right, woman! Use your brain.

1984
Republican Ronald Reagan received 58.8 percent of the popular vote (not 51% like GWB). I don’t know if Reagan is the President with the highest popularity vote percentage or not — but I know one thing for sure, it wasn’t Bush. Bush is not the most popular.

He may have had the most people vote for him — due to the swelling population — which seems to have happened quite frequently in history if you look back for a lot of different presidents– but it certainlly doesn’t make him the most popular.

Well, now you should note that she’s gone off and answered her own question.

Here’s Lisa’s statement:

President Bush now enjoys the highest popular vote than any President in the history of this nation. Ever.

She did not say “highest popular vote percentage” and she’s a big enough girl to be able to make that distinction if that’s what she had meant.

According to the US Government, the previous high popular vote total was the 1984 election when Ronald Reagan received 54,455,000 votes in his demolition of Walter Mondale. President Bush’s total of 59,108,395 is larger than Reagan’s previous high mark. The reasons for that might be worth debating, but the fact of the statement is not.

But, when you’re just trying to find something to be upset about….
