Amazing Story

Iraq Comments (0)

On Tuesday I was privileged to listen to Dr. James R. Hodges. Dr. Hodges was the Task Force Flight Surgeon for the Aviation Task Force of Operation Iraqi Freedom.

I won’t post much about what all was said, but things in Iraq are much better now than what the MSM would have you to believe. When Dr. Hodges first arrived in country he would suffer through an average of 70 mortar shells per night. By the time he left the average had dropped below one. Families, and especially children, do not run from American helicopters any longer thanks to the ingenuity of enlisted servicemembers who thought to pack old, used water bottles with candy and toss those toward, but a safe distance away from civilians. Those “candy bombs” have encouraged children (and their parents) to rethink their prejudices against our military using the same strategy as the World War II servicemembers did when they gave away the chocolate bars from their ration packs. It’s called “winning the hearts and minds” and while the MSM wants you to think we’re failing, we’re not. That process is slow and it takes time, but we’re doing it — one heart, one mind at a time.

But enough about that. I’m writing tonight so that you might go and read an amazing email. One of the things that Dr. Hodges did was to read an email that he wrote to his uncle recounting the events of 24 December 2004. I got a fax that night from our chairman; it was that email. She asked me to get that posted on the party’s website and I am happy to have done so.

Go read it. Read it now. It’s touching and worth every second you’ll spend upon it.
