Is the End Near? (Air America IV)
Air America Radio, National Politics Comments (6)
Not long ago, I suggested that things were not looking good for Air America Radio. In the comments of that post someone suggested that Air America must be doing something right because they were beating Rush Limbaugh among 18-54 year olds in the New York market.
I pointed out that the numbers were created by Air America itself. That doesn’t (or shouldn’t, anyway) cause a great deal of confidence to be put in them.
Well, it turns out that I might have been more correct than I thought. The latest extrapolations are out and WLIB has fallen right back down to pre-Air America ratings.
If these extrapolations are also the work of Air America (the New York Post article doesn’t say, unlike the old New York Times article), then it does show that maybe some stock can be put in the old extrapolations, but that listeners are tuning in and then turning off. Air America is showing itself unable to hold the attention and loyalities of its core, target audience.
Never a good sign.
